Accountability and Accreditation Information
Earlier this week, HCPS shared information about Virginia’s updated accountability and accreditation systems and how they provide a snapshot of student learning and school performance. While these systems give helpful information for continuous improvement, our best evidence of student progress is most accurately seen in classrooms each day.

Here at Tuckahoe Elementary School, we provide strong literacy and math instruction, along with real-time support including small-group learning, intervention blocks, and tutoring opportunities. Some of the factors that impact accountability and accreditation, such as daily attendance patterns and academic support at home, are areas where schools, families, and communities must work together to help students succeed.

While there are always opportunities for growth, our school is a welcoming and thriving community of learners. Once again, TES has been designated as a fully accredited school and “on track” for student achievement.

Everyone at Tuckahoe is dedicated to creating a learning environment where every student feels supported and challenged, and where belonging and achievement go hand in hand. Thank you for your partnership and for helping every TES Turtle grow and succeed.

Visitor Parking Reminders

As we enter the holidays, there will be several day time and evening activities that will require families to park around the neighborhood since parking on campus is very limited. When finding a space to park please be respectful of our community neighbors. TES visitors should not park in neighborhood driveway or block driveways in any way. I have informed concerned community members that if they are blocked from leaving their driveway, they should contact local law enforcement. Please remember to be kind and courteous!

Traffic Pattern Safety Support
Winter months render higher traffic volume on the horseshoe. Here are some very important reminders when accessing the horseshoe:

  • There should be no turning left into the horseshoe from Lindsay Drive. Families are asked to get in line on Forrest Avenue, turn right onto Lindsey and right into the horseshoe.

  • Pull all the way around the horseshoe to the stop sign OR the furthest spot available. This allows more children to exit cars and maximizes efficiency. Regardless of where they exit the car, students have a short walk into the building.

  • Per HCPS protocol, students are considered tardy if they are not in the building when the tardy bell rings at 7:40.Consider timing your arrival 5 to 10 minutes early to allow for  the traffic volume, and please be respectful to the staff who assist on the horseshoe. They are following school procedures.

Scholastic Book Fair

The 3rd annual Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to the TES Library on Monday, December 15th and Tuesday December 16th from 3:00pm-6:00pm. All proceeds go towards new books, furniture and programming for the TES Library. This will be a CASHLESS fair. Students must be accompanied by an adult when coming to the fair.

Scheduled Safety Drills

There are no drills scheduled for this week.

Have a great week everyone!

Sincerely,

Sonia Ford, Principal
