Tuckahoe Families,
It’s time to come back to school! The TES staff is excited to see everyone at Open House on Thursday. We have split Open House times to help manage parking and reduce the number of folks in the building. Please plan to come at your assigned time. I also ask that you observe parking etiquette. Please only park in designated parking spaces in the parking lots, and be sure that you are not blocking driveways if you park along neighborhood streets. We will welcome students and parents at the following times:
KG Orientation 9 AM in the auditorium
KG Playdate 10 AM on the playground
SIS Open House 10:30-11:15 AM

If you have questions regarding bus routes and/or pick up drop off times or about the after school program they will be happy to assist you.

Kindergarten Orientation Information
We look forward to seeing our Kindergarten families at Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, August 15 at 9. Prior to coming, we ask that you take a moment and look over the KG Welcome to School Presentation. Hopefully it will answer many of your questions as we look toward the first day. The administrative team will review many of these items with you and will answer any questions you may have at the orientation.
Parent and Student Handbook
Please take a moment to review the TES Parent and Student Handbook. This document should serve as your guide to navigating the HCPS and TES procedures and policies used to manage an effective learning environment for everyone.
Buckle Up for Safety
Elementary school students who ride a bus equipped with seat belts must wear them while the bus is moving. Bus drivers will remind students to fasten their seat belts as they are seated, and will help secure seat belts as needed. Refusal to wear a seat belt may result in disciplinary consequences.
Student IDs
Every HCPS student across the school division will receive a student ID on a lanyard for use throughout the school year. The cards will include the student’s name and student number, but they will not include a photo. Students will scan their ID cards when getting on and off the bus, checking out books from the library and purchasing meals in the cafeteria. The student IDs are part of a multi-layered safety plan and efforts to streamline operational processes at the school.
Cell Phone and Smartwatch Use
As in years past, students may not have cell phones out during school. To further reduce distractions in the classroom, students must keep cell phones, smartwatches, and other Wi-Fi-connected devices out of sight and silenced or in airplane mode during school hours.
During class, students should keep cell phones out of sight, turned off and in their backpacks. If a student leaves class to visit the restroom, clinic, etc., devices must remain in the classroom. If a student fails to follow these guidelines, the following steps will be taken in alignment with the 2025-2026 Code of Student Conduct.
Consequences of Cell Phone Use Infractions* | |
First Offense | A verbal warning will be given to the student, and the parent or guardian will be contacted. |
Second Offense | The device will be confiscated until the end of the day, and the student’s parent or guardian will be contacted. |
Third Offense | The device will be confiscated until the end of the day, and the student’s parent or guardian must retrieve it from the school. |
Fourth Offense | The device will be confiscated until the end of the day, and the student’s parent or guardian must retrieve it. Other student disciplinary consequences will apply. |
Fifth Offense | The student must turn in the device to the teacher daily until further notice. |
*School administrators may check for cell phones following the established HCPS Search and Seizure policy. |
Student Medication
Written parental permission on the appropriate form is required before any medication may be administered. The school nurse or clinic attendant must administer all prescription and over-the-counter medications (including cough drops, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and cold and cough preparations) in the school clinic.
Daily Attendance
Daily learning and following established routines are essential for students. Research shows that students who attend school regularly, are more proficient in reading and math and are more likely to graduate from high school and college. Students in every grade, including preschool and kindergarten, learn and develop new skills daily. Missing even one day of learning can cause a setback. Please take a minute to review the HCPS attendance policy and these family resources from Attendance Works.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday!
