Principal’s Message
Welcome families and visitors to Tuckahoe Elementary School where we empower all students to embrace their unique potential, feel a strong sense of belonging and take ownership of their own learning. Our school community values high expectations for all learners and celebrates each child’s unique contributions.
I am a graduate of Auburn University where I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I also earned my master’s degree in education with an endorsement in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia. Twenty six years ago I began my career in HCPS as a classroom teacher. This school year will mark my twelfth year as principal at Tuckahoe Elementary School.
At TES the administrative team, faculty and staff strive to create a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment for all students through engaging and interactive learning experiences. We look for ways to think outside of the box and extend our students’ learning through real world instruction. Our dynamic and dedicated teaching staff is committed to ensuring the academic success of ALL students. We also believe that a strong home-school connection is critical in promoting student growth and achievement in school.
While we are one family at TES, our House System allows students and staff to become full fledged members of one of our five Houses (Tharros, Haathee, Corazon, Mahalo and Kambi). This system helps us highlight students strengths while focusing on our core values: respectful, courageous, trustworthy, grateful and compassionate.
It has been a privilege to develop a continually improving academic and social/emotionally rich environment for our students. I welcome your feedback as we strive to provide our students with a rigorous and deeply meaningful instructional program.
I am looking forward to an exciting school year. Please continue to check the school website for more information regarding upcoming events and items of interest. With enthusiastic students, dedicated teachers, and tremendously supportive parents, I am looking forward to another fabulous year.
Sincerely,
Sonia Ford, Principal
