Tuckahoe has a variety of clubs and organizations which students can join. See the list below for a brief description of these:
Student Council Association (SCA)
SCA is an organization of fourth and fifth grade students. There is an application process in early September. Successful fourth and fifth grade applicants are then elected by their homeroom peers. One boy and one girl is selected to be the representative for their class. This is a two-year opportunity which means any fourth grade SCA student will continue in that role in fifth grade.
SCA meets one Thursday afternoon per month from 2:10-3:00 p.m.
We are a community service organization. We reach out to provide service to others in need. In the past, we have helped Christmas Mother, Richmond Book Bank, Richmond Children’s Hospital, victims disasters, deployed troops, etc. We organized several fund raisers that help us make contributions to TES.
Fifth Grade Chorus
The Tuckahoe Elementary Fifth Grade Chorus is comprised of all of the fifth grade students at TES. They perform in many special assemblies and programs including the Veteran’s Day Assembly, and the Fifth Grade Spring Musical. They meet once a week in addition to their regular weekly music class time. The fifth grade chorus works on proper vocal techniqe and singing in harmony.
Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol is a leadership program open by application to rising fifth graders. These positions that start at the beginning of the fifth grade year are designed to help the school’s adults keep students safe in school and bus areas. Safety positions include bus, hallway, auditorium, horseshoe, kindergarten, and flag/afternoon dismissal. Applicants must have the recommendation of their current fourth grade teacher, have C or above grades on their report card, no conduct x’s on their report cards, and are required to write an essay about why they would be a good safety. Applications are distributed to fourth grade classes during the last three weeks of school.
WTES
WTES is Tuckahoe Elementary School’s student run “television station”. Each morning a team of fifth grade students anchor the morning news. Through a live feed from inside the library, all Tuckahoe students begin their day with the Pledge of Allegiance, a patriotic song, the weather, and other special announcements from around Tuckahoe. Morning announcements also provides an opportunity to highlight those students who have made a difference at Tuckahoe and around the community. Fifth grade students apply for a position on one of our Morning Announcement teams by submitting an application at the end of their fourth grade year. Faculty sponsors for the Morning Announcements are Mrs. Ranson and Mrs. Christopher.
Journalism Club
Journalism Club is a special opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students at Tuckahoe who love creative writing! This club is led by two of Tuckahoe’s fantastic teachers, Mrs. Moss and Mrs. McClure. Once a month after school, Mrs. Moss and Mrs. McClure help students write articles which are then published in the yearly Tuckahoe Times. This school newspaper is a keepsake for all to keep and cherish.
TES Trekkers Club
TES Trekkers is a morning running club open to any 4th and 5th graders. Any experience level is welcome! Each season, our goal is to participate in a 5K and complete a service project to help our community. Most importantly, we have fun, get our bodies moving and make new friends! Come join Trekkers!
